Over the last couple of days, I have read " A Photographer's Guide to Section 2257" by Stephen Haynes. The reading was actually recommended by JimmyD on a recent blog of his. Although I suspect the Department of Justice would have no interest in my nickel and dime home glamour projects, I never-the-less want to comply with the federal regulations recently imposed.
I am purely an amateur photographer and probably always will be. I do not shoot sexual acts, bestiality, masturbation, or S+M abuse. However, I do shoot "actual or simulated lascivious exhibition of the genitals or pubic area." I consider myself somewhat on the conservative side, but the Dept. of Justice probably would say I fall into that catagory of "subject images."
For the most part, it is no big deal. To keep the appropriate records is easy with my small time to nonexistent operation. However, as I read it, I
am supposed to Affix a 2257 Notice to the photograph:
18 U.S.C 2257 [and/or 2257A] Record Keeping and Compliance Statement.
The records required by 18 U.S.C. 2257 and 28 C.F.R.
Part 75 are kept by
Custodian of Records
Where the hell am I supposed to put this thing? And my address too?
Why am I not seeing this statement on photos that are being posted? Are others just ignoring it? Must I delete photos from my portfolio and ammend my style of shooting? WTF?
