Another shot from Tampa ShootOut X. Model is Heather.
Shot with an Alien Bee 800 using a small beauty dish.

I noticed this quality pic had not had any comments. Not that my comments contain profound wisdom or insight...., but very nice. I like the way you balance the main subject with just a tad more light emphasis than the background but the surrounding scene is still permitted to influence the overall image. I don't know if that is intentional or just your style of composition. Also on most of your images I notice a very nice treatment of the eyes and the area around the eyes. Another quality image.

About how far did you have that beauty dish set from the model? Is the dish easier or less of a concern to use outside compared to a softbox or umbrella considering wind? At the same light settings, does more light project (directionally) from the beauty dish compared to a softbox or umbrella?

For this image my concern was the dark overcast skies. It made the colors look a little dull so I wanted to get Heather to pop from the background a little. Had the skys been more sunny things would have been handled differently and the background would have been much brighter. Thanks.

The beauty dish was about six feet from the model. It was a fairly calm day as far as wind was concerned so a soft box or umbrella could have been used too, but driving to Florida with another person and luggage limited my space in the car for extra camera equipment.
The beauty dish I use has a removeable light diffusion panel on it so it is direct light rather than reflected from inside an umbrella which allows for slightly lower light settings. Not a very wide spread on the light since my dish is only 14 inches in diameter.
