Well, since you can't build your own Mac yourself, I buy mine.

I research and spec out all my components and have a company build it to meet my requirements. That way if something doesn't work to my requirements, I can take it back and they'll fix it. I currently work on two networked computers -- a Frankenstein (many of the hard drives and IO cards are 6 to 10 years old) and a 2 year old Vista computer with over 2 TB of space.

While we're tech talking ... is anyone using a 64-bit processor yet? Any recommendations?

I build my desktops, but I buy my laptops. IBM with a flexview screen at the moment. I really need to upgrade my desktop display. Any suggestions that don't cost more then a new camera?

I built my Desktop but it way too big to sit on the desk... the case is a standard tower. I have been building and upgrading PC's for a number of years... probably as far back as the old XT's. Even built some 286 and 386 units.

I currently have 5 computers networked under, behind and next to my desk, with two monitors, one a CRT and the other is a flat screen LCD that actually rotates 360 degrees so you can use it landscape or portrait style..

I have probably enough parts to almost build another 2 or 3 computers.. but lack some parts to finish them.

Since my surgery and the resultant nerve damage to my right hand and forearm I cant do it anymore so they sit being old and not top of the line parts anymore.

Being on disability and the photo business being slow (as someone said because of the economy), I havent upgraded my working computers in awhile...

ok.. enough about my hardware and software. I got out of the Tech support area a number of years ago as my photography was making me more money than the fulltime tech support was.

Well, I do a combination of both. I start out with one out of the box, and then upgrade myself, ie RAM, Hard Drives, monitors, etc. One thing I must say is that I am glad to see all of us acting like true professionals here and a brand war hasn't started, like on some other fourm. I guess we know that while we have a brand preference, it's the user that makes it all work.
