I might have just found someone who wants some glamour pictures taken of her.

First question I have is there a go to setup for lights (150ws light with umbrella (shoot through or bounce)) that would give predictable fair results so I get at least a couple of pictures for her to feel good about the shoot. Really just something that would let me put more focus on composition and posing for my first shoot? Would that just be the 45* off camera axis and 45* from floor plane? Or is there something more basic but still useful? I have played a bit with light and read up on it a fair bit but reading is no substitute for experience and discussion.

Any other useful tips for this first shoot? She is a friend of mine and the comfort level seems to be there so it should just take a few decent shots to take the edge off.

Anyway tips would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend doing a non-glamour shoot with their friend first to work out lighting issues and get that experience. That will do more for both of you I think.

if you won't have a lot of time, i'd prolly shoot it non-glam (tease) and i'd prolly shoot a lot of headshots to start out with. less to worry about in total that way. make changes to your setup as you go along and take notes as to the changes if you need to.

if you and she both have a lot of time, go nuts and see what happens, and definitely take notes on your setup.

I really need to get the whole shoot schedule nailed down I don't exactly know what kind of time frame we're talking about yet.

Plan the shoot shoot the plan. I agree with keeping it simple until you gain some experience. Headshots might sound simple, but they require some skill to pull off. Also I'd go for one light and play around with it if your subject has the time an patience.

i suggested headshots because, as i posted above, there's less to worry about. you know, those pesky things like arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, all that posing stuff...he can pretty much set her in a chair, set the cam on a pod, and just worry about camera and light settings, and move the light around and see what happens.
