First of all, GG is under new management, I'm only part owner. I'm on my way to the Virgin Islands workshops, guess what, airlines now charge for each bag, times do change.
Bandwidth is not cheap. Software upgrades, programming, database and front end server upkeep, email server, etc., all cost money. Being a lifetime member of G1 was a requirement to post workshops on G1, this is not G1, it's GG.
If you read the policies and rules, it basically states, if you're going to take from this community, in this case a profit
you make from the community we support financially, then we expect a contribution in return. If you had 20 attendees to your workshop, that's one dollar per person, not bad, not a gouge. If you do ten, that's two bucks, doesn't even buy a gallon of gas much less milk. There are no more free rides, 99% of the G1 Lifetime members do not conduct workshops and they will always be treated with the highest we have to offer here.
I also know some workshop hosts that only post on forums and do not participate otherwise. But other than the expenses we incur, most of the policy change was to eliminate those who don't truly have passion for the craft and don't contribute in any form on this site except to profit from it. It's like the fan who says he loves the football team "X"," but never watches a game, except when they are winning or in the playoffs.
BTW, to answer your question about MM, I think they should charge, and I would be the first to step up to the plate to post on their workshop and events forum. It would certainly make it easier to find my posts for any updates. Would you pay there?
I wish you all the best, and thanks for being a part of this community and family, rg sends!
