Just in case you haven't seen it yet. Just got the email a little while ago...

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...&modelid=17662

In a nutshell-
Canon's update to the wildly popular full frame EOS 5D is here, and it's better than ever. The EOS 5D Mark II has a stunning 21.1-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with DIGIC 4 Image Processor, a vast ISO Range of 100-6400 (expandable to ISO L: 50, H1: 12800 and H2: 25600), plus EOS technologies like Auto Lighting Optimizer and Peripheral Illumination Correction. It supports Live View shooting, Live View HD videos, and more. It can shoot up to 3.9 fps, has 9 AF points plus 6 AF assist points, a new 98% coverage viewfinder, a 3.0-inch Clear View LCD (920,000 dots/VGA) and a rugged build. Full-frame shooters rejoice!

Yum...

Well, I hope that it has fewer gliches than what was it - the 5D that had so many problems focusing. It's honestly a shame that so many people had that kind of problems with a top of the line camera by any major manufactuer. I expected better out of Canon.

Well I would have rather had it around 16 meg and 6 fps, but oh well..

Ye-haw, it looks like we are going to have a Megapixel war between Canon & Nikon! Better start buying new 1-TB hard drives and 16GB CF cards..

At a "slow" 3.9 fps (come on Canon, why not tweak something and get to 4.0 fps?) , there should not be any focusing issues..

I bought a used 1D MKIII for not much more than this, so I would probably not be interested in one until used bodies drop down in the $1600 range...

I know there were a few quirks with the 5D but everybody I know that has one thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread...

As for complaints about it only being 3.9fps... 1Ds MkIII is only 5fps. I wonder how much it will cut into their 1 series sales?

I am anxious to see how the images look... I have shot a 1Ds III and found the images to be a bit noisy in certain situations (just nitpicking here). The new 5D chip with micro-lenses and Digic 4 processor might do something to change that (look at hi ISO samples on the new 50D. Quite good!). I wish it was 16mp, too, but I hear they are trying to roll them off the same line. The huge 21mp sensor in the 1Ds made even my "L" series glass look a tad soft... Oh well, Zeiss makes glass for our Canons now!

I'll take one of each, sir.

Personally, I think it is going to rock and I can't wait to get my hands on one.

I used a video camera's frames one time only to emulate shooting multiple frames. It was to make an animated gif from a goose potecting goslings that I provoked into flapping it's wings at me. My point is how often will you use the 3.9 fps feature.

Of even less interest to most of you, and my 'rational indication' is that it hasn't been mentioned on this page, is the hd video capability of this camera. That is a lot of cluck for your buck if you use it.

The hd video is clearly overkill for web streaming and is even viable for broadcast more or less.

I am interested in web streaming video so this is a decisive feature for me.

Regarding the built in video feature... We got a D90 in at the store the other day and after a few minutes it dawned on me that it didn't have audio! I bet ya the Canon doesn't have it either. But, I am not complaining, it's not what I would buy it for... But either way, it's kinda like guns and condoms, better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!

The canon does have audio:

"Full audio support: built-in mic and speaker, mic-in socket, audio-out over AV (although not HDMI)"

So whats everyones opinion? Im getting ready to purchase the D700 or the 300. Im starting from scratch (just sold my d200 and glass). So honestly am I better off switching to cannon and waiting on the mkII? or is the Nikon the way to go?
