Probably could be done outside with ideal conditions and enough lights to do that with, but I don't know many people with the equipment or extra help to be able to do that. I've seen it done at some of the photo seminars with behind the scenes pictures, but they have the resources available to them. All I had was one strobe, the sun, a scrim and one other person to help out.
Sometimes we used the scrim and other times we didn't.
