I wanted to know if anyone has advice for me. I want to get a macro lens so I can shoot at close distance, with a very shallow depth of field. I have a Nikon D200 that I use most of the time, and the lens I use the most is the 85mm f1.8. I was looking at a Sigma macro 2.8, which got pretty good reviews. Or should I just spend the money and get the Nikon version? I don't have any experience with any Sigma of Tamron lenses. Basically I want one that will be very sharp. All help appreciated.

Most brands have very sharp macro lens. Tamron, Sigma, even Tokina. You'll not find a great deal of difference in how sharp any of them are even compared to the mfg lens.
Cheers,

FWIW, back in the dark ages, I always found myself reaching for the 100 mm macro over the 55 mm macro simply because the extra distance between the lens and subject made life a tad easier, IMO. Stopped down to f/22, the DOF difference of the longer lens never seemed noticeable. Might be a factor in your decision, particularly if you're planning to shoot wee beasties.
