The registration process suffers from first-time-itus With no profile no data no history the program doesn't display sensible messages. This goes away after the person has entered some photos and posts and such but that first impression could do harm.

I do like the "feel". Haven't gotten into it very far but so far it has possibilities.

Bob, thanks, I've changed the bio field. On the registration, we want folks to take it serious and to upload the required information and images, hence the sensibility (grin) but I'll put it on my list of upgrades. That's the whole idea, we want folks to try it out over there first, so we can make the changes here second. We also want to be careful because that software is still in beta (unstable) stages and we don't want to break anything here. G1 is due for an overhaul without it being too dramatic and we're just preparing for it there and need your feed back there to apply the positive here.

Hi. Thanks for your feedback. Please keep in mind we're trying to establish that site as a "critique site" for constructive, not destructive critiques of almost all genres of photography. We do not want to replicate too much of what is on G1 or other sites, though I can see technical and post being separated.

This might be difficult, but when you first go to the site, you have to search to see if you're logged in. the JOIN text is bigger and brighter than the WELCOME text..

I gotta say I find this spreading notion of photography as a "competive activity" with an associated points system really disturbing.

As for critiques, I've made my opinion known several times before, but what the heck... ANYBODY should be able to critique ANY photo ANYTIME, without posting an accompanying photo. Photographers should not be shooting pictures only for other photographers. If they are, they are shooting themselves in the foot. No pun intended. End of rant...

I signed up to see what it's all about... but had a real problem with the magic window and the six characters.

First time around, one of the characters was about the same color as the background, and I guessed wrong as to what it was.

The second and third tries didn't work because I was not paying any attention to whether the characters were upper or lower case. And some characters (for instance o), how the heck do you know for sure?

Fourth try I about gave up trying to guess if a number was supposed to be upper or lower case. Apparently, I guessed right.

It REALLY needs a note saying that you MUST match the case of the displayed character to get it to work. Maybe there was a note and I missed it. Anyway, if there was a note, the note needs to be BIGGER.

Captcha verification always poses a problem for me too because I have trouble reading some characters against odd colored backgrounds, etc. There is a refresh link right below the Captcha box, however, and if you click it, it draws a new set of characters. Usually you can get something that is readable with a few clicks.
