So a good friend of mine decided to chuck all his Nikon equipment and switch to Canon. Nikon's loss appears to be my gain because my friend is giving my first shot at buying his Nikon lenses. The only one I'm interested in is his 28-70 f2.8. It's five years old, but appears to be in great shape ... except that the rubber barrel grip is loose and keeps slipping up. Anyone know how to fix a loose grip?

Anywayz ... he's letting me use the lens for a week or two to see if I like it. Here are my first pix with the lens. Let me know if you see any lens issues that I should know about. Model is Brooke Becker from Dallas

The only "issue" I see, is that the lens only captured 3 images. ;-7

These are great photos, her eyes are sharp, and the lighting is really good, but I am not enough of a technician to say if there are any real lens issues

Do you really think that these photos wouldn't have been just as great if you'd use a comparable focal length of a lens you currently own?
cheers,
rfs

As always .. images so exciting to look at.. and as always so envious of the ladies you find. Such clean, crisp work.. and whites of the eyes.. yepp.

Have you tried that "Super putty" stuff that Billy Mays advertises on TV? LOL....if it will pull a 50 thousand pound truck, it should fix a little loose lens.

Hey Ben, you are always welcome to come to Dallas to shoot with me ... and one of the hot local ladies.

Wouldn't that look cool ... a big glob of green putty around my lens as a grip. Maybe we should patent the idea. If nothing else it might keep people from stealing the lens. LOL!

Here's a headshot of Brooke from the same shoot.
Nikon D300 • Nikkor 28-70 f2.8 • Two Alien Bee 400s

Marty,

A couple of very little dabs of 5-minute epoxy under the barrel grip should work well. Nikon uses an adhesive that is not easily available, though a repair shop (Competitive Camera does repairs, don't they? If not, theres a shop in Arlington I used on my F3HP a few years ago that may still be in businesss, and he kinda specialized in Nikon gear) should have something that'll do the job as well.

Hey! How come you never offered to set me up with one of your girlz? Harrumph!

Gorgeous shots as usual from you Marty! Can you give me any insight on lighting set up that you used (softbox, umbrella, etc.?) and where they were placed. I also use AB, but would like to get the results that you do. Great sharp lens, and model.
