Thanks to everyone for the kind words. This was somewhat uncharted waters for me. I decided to apply what i know how to do (i.e., glamour shooting... lighting, model interaction, etc) to fashion. I'm not comfortable yet in this genre. My cousin kept asking me not to make the models look too sexy. Finding the balance between the model and making sure the clothes are the part of the images that speak the loudest--being this is a glamour site i wasn't sure if viewers would do the same--is the thing i need to continue working on if i'm going to pursue more of this sort of work.... which i hope to do. If I posted these on a fashion forum, I'm not sure I'd still receive the sort of "kind words" I received here, on a glamour site.

You can see the full size image as originally uploaded to G1 and with no additional compression by just right clicking on the image and copying the URL and then paste it into address bar of the browser and remove the "large/" and you'll see the original image. Here's an example of my favorite image from JimmyD's set.

And here is what it looked like pasted into the address bar of a browser.

Note where I've highlighted "large/" and then I deleted it and then pressed enter to see the image.

Cheers,
rfs

I think I remember Rolando saying, in one of his books [I'm too lazy to walk over to the bookcase right now and figure out which one], that one of the differences between glamour and fashion was in the use of the models eyes. In glamour the eyes are almost always a focal point [figuratively as well as literally], to draw the attention to the model and not the scene, clothes etc. In fashion they are deemphasized, the model often looking away from the camera to let the viewer's attention be drawn elsewhere - in this case the clothes.

Looking at your images I can kind of see this, while all wildly successful - you can't take a bad picture it seems - some may serve the "fashion" genre better than others.

Just my take - and your blog is on my everyday read list BTW. Thanks for writing it.

That might be one difference we often see in images that would either be characterized as fashion or glamour but, personally, I don't think it's a major difference. If fashion photographers routinely try to de-emphasize attention on the model--presumably to emphasize whatever it is the image is pimping--why would beauty and allure be so high up on the list of things that make a model sought after and successful?

I think there's something more esoteric going on that separates many fashion images from glamour images even though both genres of images often feature beautiful women.

Esoteric as it may be, I will figure it out.

I think the answer is in your own paragraph - " to emphasize whatever it is the image is pimping". The model, while being photographed to not be the center of attention in fashion photography, is still contributing to the aura of desirability the shooter is attempting to project onto the clothes. In glamour or erotic photography the item being "sold" is the model's image so the clothing is de-emphasized (or the model is emphasized), but still as attractive as possible within the theme of the picture (when was the last time you saw dirty "Daisy Dukes" unless it was a mud wrestling shot....LOL).
