Portrait converted to black and white, contrast and brightness adjustments, reduced and sharpened for the web.

I love the freckles and the B & W conversion. The one thing that kills this image is the "smile". It looks like she's snarling..sorry!

It's actually a pretty good conversion. Looks like you did a good job adjusting the levels. I agree with JW, she looks like she just smelled something bad.

The B/W conversion worked well. That is one of the wonders of the Digital age that we can have the power to go color or b/w with our images. The contrast and tonal ranges are working well in the conversion method you used.

Do you have any particular method?

I keep trying a variety of methods and some seem to work well on one photo but not as well on another. I'm currently using several of the NIK Color EFEX filters (CEP 3.0) and they seem to work well and give some interesting controls such as protecting the shadows and/or highlights.

Cheers,
rfs

My standard way of converting to black and white is by using the hue and saturation tool to remove the color and follow that with the brightness and contrast tool.

That's her standard big smile form what I've seen of her. Tried to get her not
to smile on some pictures and she had difficulty doing that. She isn't really a model, just someone that wanted some decent pictures of herself.
