I am looking for some ideas for a themed shoot, specically for a 50s style pin up theme, I have the model, I have the costumes, what I am needing is some ideas for backgrounds and/or locations. So if anyone would be so kind as to offer up some ideas it would be most grateful.
I already have one location, friend of mine collects older cars, particularly hot rods and he has a showroom where we could shoot, but that is just one, I would like more ideas...please.

Is there an old style Diner anywhere near you ? I've seen several themed shoots in Diners before.

How about old airplanes at a private airstrip. Or an old gas station.

Get a copy of the book that contains all the illustrations produced by Gil Elvgren. There are over 400 illustrations and they are mostly all classic pinups and you can get lots of ideas from them.

Here are a few online links to give you a small sampling of his work:

http://www.btinternet.com/~brmerc/elvgren/elvgren.html

http://www.thepinupfiles.com/elvgrenindex.html (lots at this link (see eras off to the right)

Cheers,
rfs

A great place to look is at a small local airport, find some prop jobs to use as backdrop or props.

Build your own.

This series was all done in my studio,

pin-up series

It doesn't take a lot to create the illusion of "place". In the following image I used seamless paper for the wall, some molding for the baseboard, and I had a room.

And I like that you have the little details "hidden" in the photo...like your initials on the towel. Great photo.

The problem with "themed" shoots is that most themes have become visual cliches due to the vast amount of work done with them. The trick should be to come up with new "themes" or new variations on the older themes.

And changing the model isn't a real variation....

That's a great shot. I enjoyed looking at your series link as well. Cheers
