I am throwing myself to the lions of photography here! Please drop off your two cents as to why this shot works / doesn't work and how you'd do it differently. I am currently very frustrated and I feel like I'm stuck in a rut!

thanks!

To me, it looks soft and it's missing the hair light.

nothing done to separate from the seamless, uniform background.

First of all, the styling of her hair all over her breast is unattractive and sloppy to me. Secondly, there is no detail in her hair. just a dark mass. Thirdly, you need a separation light to light her hair from behind or off to the side to add punch, detail, and separation.

Look at Levels and the "science" will show your exposure is under about a full stop. In post, you need to "spread" your image to all 256 levels available, to pick up some highlights. If it were my image I would play with the mid-tones to see what looks best.

Bonner, your image lacks definition of hair and separation as well.

Not sure if you were posting an example of the right way, or one that falls short as does Murphy66's.

Well guy's I am looking at the image a little differently. I do agree about the separation light. What really bothers me is the model is placed in the right third of the image which really cramps her in the image. I feel she is crowded in the image. Next, the pose is static. If I placed an imaganary line through her eyes and shoulders they would be parallel. Shift them a little.
I really like the try. Beautiful.

Lack of definition in hair is something I see quite frequently. I've found the Shadow/Highlight tool can sometimes work wonders enhancing and/or restoring hair definition. (Model Nautica, MUA Dehlia, image captured last week.)
