Hi colleagues,

I have a problem with another G1 member and am looking for some suggestions as to potential ways to resolve it. My guess is that I need to chalk it up to experience but if anyone has any ideas I will appreciate them. Here is the short version of the problem:

Back in April I posted about printers and two of our fellow members offered to print some samples on their printers before I invested money in new equipment. I sent $20 to both members to cover materials and shipping (which was all that was requested). One of those members (Doc Smith) did some stellar prints for me on his Epson 2400 and I really appreciate Doc's efforts. The other member (who shall remain nameless at this point) never sent me any prints. I followed up in June and was told the prints had gone out quite a bit earlier but that the member would follow up with UPS and get back to me. I never heard back, never got my prints and the member (who still is active on this site) stopped replying to my e-mails - the last of which simply asked for my money back. Now, in the grand scheme of things, $20 is not that big a deal but I simply hate to get ripped off. I have not "outed" the member (yet) but if anyone has any suggestions besides contacting Rolando, please let me know.

regards

I'd send one more PM to the person and ask for the UPS tracking number. This will be the proof of whether he sent the package or not. If it appears he did send it, then that will move to a second issue and approach when can be discussed once that issue is resolved.

cheers,
rfs

Hi Fredrick,

Thanks for the suggestion but the last e-mail this guy answered in June said that he was going to get back to me with the shipping info and never did. I think it is clear he never shipped the prints - what would your second approach be?

While my first instinct was to "out" him, it is against the rules to flame individuals on these forums - even if they deserve it.

"... it is against the rules to flame individuals ..."
from webopedia:
"FLAME (n.) A searing e-mail or newsgroup message in which the writer attacks another participant in overly harsh, and often personal, terms. Flames are an unfortunate, but inevitable, element of unmoderated conferences.
(v.) To post a flame."
Seems to me a simple statement of fact cannot be a flame. Avoid any overly harsh, personal terms. You paid $20. This person didn't deliver. Nothing overly harsh. Nothing personal.
Just my opinion.

Thanks for the comments.

Your points are well taken - the truth is not a flame per se but I still want a moderator to tell me to "out" the guy before I do so.

If you're gonna out him (and at this point, from all you've written and all you've done to resolve this, i think it's appropriate) you probly need to provide some proof... like a canceled check or something that indicates the transaction took place. I'm not calling what you've said in question but if you've ever been to small claims court, they require some kind of proof.

Having said that, $20 might be cheap tuition for what you learned from this experience.

I believe Mark Twain said it best:

"Trust everybody, but always cut the cards"!

My moderator take on this is: send him one more PM asking for the UPS tracking information. Tell him that if it is not promptly forthcoming that you'll be forced to take unpleasant action. When you've sent the PM, post to this thread to let us publicly know you've sent the PM. Then you're covered. If you then get no response after 7 days, then perhaps sending a note to the moderators with the person's name will be the next step.

Cheers,
rfs

Donít sweat it. It is not a lot of money, let it go. I doubt it was his intention to cheat you.
