An itch that needs scratching...

I suppose there are a lot of factors involved but I think my main itch is that the pictorial doesn't portray GI's in a very complimentary way.

At a time we are facing international censure for hiring shoot happy mercenaries because we don't have enough troops, and apparently (according to some ex-military brass) getting our butts kicked in a no-win situation, here's an international rag portraying GI's as whoring, boozing, layabouts. Not quite the message I want to send the world. Whadda ya wanna bet this pictorial gets passed around in third world countries with some accompanying comments about the weakness of the great Satan.

It'd be the easy thing to do... we seem to take the easy way a lot these days. But if you don't even comment on stuff like this, you might as get hooked up to plastic tubes, plant yourself in front of ESPN, and let others run the whole show... Thanks, but not yet.

Waitaminnute, Al. You don't get to quit just yet. Two questions for YOU:
1. Have you served in the Armed Forces? If so, do you think that anyone you served with is going to look at those images and think "Gee, it was just like I remembered"?
2. And if you DID serve, do you really care what anyone else thinks about those images?

It's not real, Al. It's faked up...It's not presented as a documentary and it bears no more resemblance to a real military unit than did Dumbo Drop or Hogan's Heroes! Those who have been there know that. Those that haven't...

After running side-by-side with those guys and girls for almost 20 years, I'm not worried about that happening to me, Al. Firefighters, at least the ones around here, are a lot more professional than that. Besides... I've got the negatives!
