So, I haven't been posting in a long while, but I have been shooting. I finally have some time to do some post processing and what happens? I come back from the eye doc and I have severe colour blindness!

Hmmm .... that sucks.

So even with a calibrated monitor, my colours, as I see them, are still way off, since I'm relying on my eyes most of the time to make adjustments. So are there RGB / CMYK skin tone charts out there for correct colour exposures? And not just for the white skin persuasion too, but say fair white with tan, light olive skin, dark olive skin, tanned Asian skin, South Asian skin, etc... you get the idea. Something to check colours "by numbers" sort of thing.

Thanks, Art.

Art,

If memory serves me, you are a bit beyond diapers, yet you are just now discovering you are color blind? Good grief!

I am not aware of any reference charts, but why can't you just use other images as your reference. "Borrow" some off the 'net, have someone tell you if they look "right" and truck on...

Or you can forget about all the correction stuff and just create a new style... who knows, green tinged babes might be the Next Big Thing...

A final thought... shoot B&W. We need a good replacement for Ansel!

LOL Al,

Apparently it can get worse as one ... ahem ... ages. I was thinking about using tear sheets and the like, but I don't know. I'd much prefer something a bit more scientific. Sorta.

As for St Ansel, there are plenty of fine replacements already.

Regards, Art.

Art,

You wanna talk aging... how about the joy of cataracts. Having a fixed focus lens implanted in your corneas... lotsa fun...

Been there, done that, got the Tee shirt, wore it out, waxing the car with it...

Ah, you youngsters, wait till you get to be my...um...senior status. (I do love the discounts tho... )

I did find this one website: http://www.smugmug.com/help/skin-tone

It would be great to get some of the same 'formulas' for other skin tones. Still searching.

Regards, Art.

Have you checked out Skin? It's a book by Lee Varis. One pp. 132 and following he gives some values or rather ratios for caucasian, african, asian skin tones. If I were having problems even though calibrating I would for sure have a white/black/grey card in my photo in at least some of the images.

There is a program out there that is supposed to have a massive database of skin tones that is supposed to do a fair job of color balancing the skin from what some other wedding photographers have told me. www.PictoColor.com is the web site. You may want to check it out. I haven't used it myself yet.

Color blind? Become the king of B&Ws

Al -- i have a lens implant as well, albeit it's only one eye. i was 100% blind in that eye for over a decade yet still worked as a shooter.
