very nice, would have like one of her glancing at the camera.

The white hair band, not sure about that, being that she is wearing all black.

Good job!

This came from a shoot with a beginner photographer and I wanted to leave all of the details up to her and the model to see what they could come up with on there own. Personally I would have chose a black head band or none at all but let them make that choice for this so that they could learn something from it. I only managed to get about a dozen images in while watching them and giving some occasional advice.

Thanks,
Jim

For a beginner, the image is good work. In addition to the headband, I'd probably reshoot without the leading riser at the corner of the image. It has a lot of visual weight to my eye -- but clearly, that's just me. The photographer you were working with (and the model) should be pleased!

Hopefully you were not thinking that I posted someone elses image. This is one that was shot by me while they were working on their part of it. Only the concept and outfit was of their making. They were both pleased with what they came up with and the beginner photographer likes what she shot, as it is her first digital slr that she's had for about a month. It took some time to get her out of the "point and shoot digital" idea for a camera if she was to really learn something about photography and for now, still uses the camera on Automatic settings until she has more time to learn about it.

Thanks,
Jim

Hello Jim,

I really like this one. I would probably change a couple of things in hind sight, but it is nice.

Based on the caption I would think some type of headband or something would be fitting, though with that deep black hair I am not certain off the top of my head what I would use.

Again, from the title I think not looking at the camera is the right treatment for this image. I would like to see maybe some more intensity in the expression, but unless a model is a natural actor it usually takes them a while to get to that point in my experience. My impression is that she should be perched ready to pounce.

Now that I look at the image again this morning, the riser doesn't bother me as much in the image...just the way is slices the copyright. And no, I knew you had taken the image -- but I thought it was a reference shot for your new shooter.

Black hair, black headband?

Nope, I think the ladies got it right. White shows up, black would disappear, and I think the hairdo needs it.

Just my opinion...

There was something else I couldn't quite put my finger on when I posted here previously... then it dawned on me a little later.

The white headband/black hair in the image is very similar to the traditional nun's black habit. Only here, her hair emulates most of the "habit" and the headband emulates the white front piece. There's a word for that headdress, but I can't recall what it is...

Sorta reinforces the angel theme, don'tcha think. Ahhh, I love them subtle visual clues when they're well done.
