This was Jessicka's second shoot, and my first time trying out my new ringlight outdoors. It's a little tricky getting the right exposure, but I'll do a lot more practicing.Click for larger version

Looks great!

The key is to keep the flash to subject distance the same after you have everything metered. Not always the easiest thing to do unless you are using a tripod or have a model who doesn't wander from her spot!

Good point Steve. At least she was not moving here, but I'm still thinking I have just a bit too much light on her, kind of tricky working with sliding controls.

The studio images are very nice.

I'm not a big fan of artificial light outdoors. Check the levels on it...I think it is a little flat.

May I offer a solution? A measured length of fine black fishing line tied between the camera and the model. Keep the string taut, Voila... proper distance.

You could also probably use one of those ultrasonic rangefinders available at Home Depot... or maybe even focus and then look at the lens's distance markings, however that may a bit too obvious...

But that's the just the way us engineers think...
