Let me start off by saying that I like both versions equally. Something about seeing the background light and the dirty white floor adds to the photo, on the other hand the pure white "cleaned up" version speaks for itself. So which do you prefer, and why? C&C appreciated.

First the dirty versions...

and the clean versions...

Since it is B&W I think your original photo is best.

The light and floor add a visual element but do not distract from the image.

You are right though. The clean versions are equally good.

You are lucky. You shot a 'twofer'.

ok... I think I prefer the cleaned up versions although the originals ok as well.

My problem is with the poses. They are so close to being really good. In the first one her left hand looks really weird to me. and in the second her right arm position bothers me.

Overall I would say bravo...probably your best work to date that I have seen. The lighting and the B&W conversion is very good. Keep going...

I'm not real excited about the shots due mostly to your choice of lighting. The background light is really bright and the model seems to have too much light all over her. I feel shadows are part of lighting and we need both.

It is interesting that Scott posted an example of this for me. He also highlihgts my other comment...I want to "connect" with the model and see some of her face. In his example, I, as a viewer, want to know what it is she is thinking with that look. If your model had just turned her head a little and give us some personality, I think that it would add interest to your images.

As it stands I prefer the cleaned up. Now if you had had that light OFF and you could see the background as well as perhaps other elements of the "set" such as maybe a light or a foamcore...it might have been really cool as a whole separate idea, but as it is I think it's just kind of a distraction.

What do I know, though.

I'd have to go with the cleaned up versions, personal opinion.

Yeah, I got a twofer and then some. She's one of the most talented models I've ever worked with. Thanks for your comments

You're absolutely correct, with no eyes, or facial expression, there is a lot less of a connection with the model.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. I did end up going with the cleaned up version for the prints.
