I've got a session coming up for a pole dancer and as it's not something I'm intimately familure with I was wondering if anyone here has any posing ideas? Maybe some pictures?

From what little I have seen from the sport of pole dancing. Her coming up with clever poses shouldnt be a problem. I would certainly let her lead on this one.

might be cool if you can find a guy or a girl so be in a chair watching as sort of a shadowed figure in the background, or shoot from behind them.

I agree with gr8shotz...pole dancing shots is not about "posing", it's about capturing the action as it happens.

Would you ask about posing if you were going to shoot a football game?
No one is going to pose for that....you shoot what is presented to you and you either get it or you don't.

Here is an example of pole dancing from Wisconsin.

When I work with dancers (OK, she's not a pole dancer, but the idea is still there), I find it helpful for them to run through a small part of their routine once at normal speed or a little slower if they can, so that I can see the steps and sequence and learn what to watch for to catch the peak of the action. Then we go through the same pattern again, and I'm ready for the moment based on what I have seen. The last time I worked with this dancer, we got this shot in about 2 minutes.

Cheers

Certain looks can be posed and don't take away from the idea. Sometimes it's even better to pose the model than to catch her mid-action. Leg wrapped around pole as she leans backwards... things of that nature. But I agree in having her run through her routine first to give you an idea of what she can and can't do.

Ask her not to go through the entire routine, just parts. Otherwise she'll do several good moves and you'll miss half of them.

jersterncourt, can you tell me where you got pole and how you rigged up in studio, iffin' that is where your shot was taken. I would like to put one up in studio but it must be able to take down easily. I don't want the little kiddies swinging on it and asking their church going mom, mom, what's this for.
Thanks
