Here's another from the pool. Not much else to say about it. I know it's not perfect, so tell me what I could've/should've done differently.

Thanks All!

When shooting a pretty model in a swimming pool I think you need to go for something a bit more dramatic than just tilting the picture. The grass and white pool areas seem to be competing for dominance in this scene.

Maybe it is just me, since I have said this a couple of times on comments on other photos, but I get an awkward feel when I see water that is tilted. It makes it look like it is an unstable situation that puts tension in a photo, and not the good kind of tension.

Just my very humble opinion though.

PTL,
Lee

What I have noticed in the series of images first, is the lack of catchlights in the eyes. This makes the model look cold and lifeless. She is lacking in expression and "punch."

Get some expression out of her, and make sure there is something bright reflecting in her eyes.

Hey Don, great to see you posting again. When are you guys going to help me with a place to come up for a seminar (grin). Tell "Helen" I said Hi!

Now on your photo, it's already been said about "tilt" and water, and I have to agree, doesn't go. I have to compliment you on at least having water with a swimsuit, many photographers have swimsuits or bikini-clad models in their backyard with a picket fence, and no water or swimming pool. To me, you've got to match the clothes to the environment, unless you're shooting a Sears catalog.

Your image need more fill light too, brighten up those eyes, and stay away from the cliche looking over the sun-glasses, all it creates is the "canoeing" effect, which most editors don't like. This image the model doesn't appear to have canoe eyes, so you're ok on this one.

Now, the one thing that bothers me, is the model's left hand--it's cropped out by the framing and the water. The old saying is, "Crop above the elbow or knee, otherwise you have an amputee."

Again, thanks for posting, say hello to the Mrs. and hope the baby is doing well. Miss seeing you guys! Wishing you the best, rg sends!

I agree with Rolando ... more fill light, more catch lights. Also my personal preference is to not have the background drop off to black ... different cropping or more background light might have made this shot more interesting.

The shot below was a simple two light setup ... one Alien Bee 400 over my shoulder and a Nikon SB-800 on the ground behind her
