Was contacted by a girl last week about doing a photoshoot. We discussed the shoot and it's going to be her and a friend of hers, the theme being some sort of "friends comforting eachother" thing. We were thinking of using a large bridge nearby as a background, but now that I've been there to check for possible locations I'm suddenly not sure how to compose the pictures. How do you incorporate a large bridge into the background

oh, btw, maybe I should introduce myself. 28-year-old amateur photographer living by the largest lake in Sweden with my wife and kids and who's dreaming of becoming a better photographer

Welcome to G1...your question is one that is extremely hard to answer without actually seeing the setting. I would try MANY different compositions...use a lot of negative space...experiment with your DOF etc.

Most guys here are really helpful, but I am afraid the answer you seek will be tough to get...

Good Luck

Bring along some props like suit cases, heavy coats and any other ideas for use on, under or near the bridge. What ever you do, be sure to mix it up and see what happens from the model's personalities and your contribution to the creative process. Shoot at sunset, then try some night work with the models.

Be sure to post later the best of the session.

Try using a longer lens and throwing the background out of focus, or just isolate interesting detail in the background.

You could try a night shot if the bridge is lit, flash on the girls in the foreground, of course.

I didn't have any girls to shoot but here's an example; [click on the link, don't know why it doesn't show in the frame]

I just thought you guys deserved to see the results. I won't post the pictures here, but here's a link to the swedish site they're posted at:

http://www.modellbilder.se/photosess...tion%3Doptions

As you can see, we ditched the bridge. There were easier backgrounds available.
