I'm planning for a hot tub shoot on July 11, and wondering if I could request any suggestions/tips as to lighting the set.

It will be an outdoor location that is fenced in on all 4 sides, with an open top, late in the evening. I'll have direct sunlight for part of the set, so will be reflecting sunlight back onto the models, but will later have to use some strobes to get the shots. We'll be working with 3 models in varying attire from tees to topless, and are using a medium sized hot tub with interior lighting I'd like to use. I'm expecting to drag the shutter somewhat to catch the tub lighting for effect, but am wondering about position and angle of strobes to get the best overall effect with minimal light reflection off the water.

Your input is Very much appreciated! Samples are, as always, welcomed.

Thanks in Advance!

The best suggestion I can make, is go to the location ahead of time and do some test shots with a friend. Any backlight will reflect off the water more. Be very careful with power packs and light heads being hit by water that overflows or splashes. It goes without saying you don't want any to fall into the tub.

There is typically a lot of moisture in the air so it is possible to get a shock. I would use wireless triggers and keep the packs as far from the area as possible.

A grid pointed straight down into the water and missing the subject will mimic the interior lights. Scuba housings for strobes are available also.

I like large silks ( sometimes erroneously referred to as scrims) stretched on frames as my light source.

Sounds like you've shot a lot of these. Can you post some examples? I'm sure that would help the thread considerably.
Cheers,
rfs

Alas, all mine are private shoots. I will be working on finding models who need shots this summer and will have something to show. I am scanning some images next week in a variety of genres to put here on my portfolio. That way I can offer some critiques without violating rule 10!
