Mia Giacobbe shot with two Canon flashes, one on camera master, one slave held off camera

The 550EX flash was the first top end on camera flash released by Canon to be fully functional with their digital SLR's (like your EOS 20D). It is an excellent match for you 20D and should serve you well. One feature of the 550EX is that it will act as a master and trigger other EX series flashes such as another 550EX or the 420EX and 430EX, so you can use a multi flash set up in the future.

One thing to keep in mind is the EZ series flashes such as the 540EZ and 420EZ are not fully compatible with your 20D, and only work in the manual mode. Unfortunately it is easy to confuse the 420EZ and 420EX, the key is to look for the EX extention when buying an on camera flash for your 20D.

For more information about your 550EX, go to this Canon website.

I have a 20D also, and looked for a 550ex , but I couldn't find any new ones online, so I checked 550ex flashes on ebay, found about 8 different used ones, so I watched the final winning bids. They went for an average price around $300.
I read good reviews on some different forums about the Sigma EF 500 DG Super Flash which is a copy of the 550ex.
So, I got mine a couple weeks ago,..haven't used it too much yet, but it fires my
slaved 420ex, and does seem to work just like the 550ex from what I've read about them.
Hope this helps, http://www.canogacamera.com/detail.aspx?ID=8814

If you pick up a 550,...get used to using it in Manual mode! The ettl sucks to the max..

When working bellow 125ths, use it in second curtain sync mode..
