Here is #2 in our series of Post Processing challenges. We got lots of responses to #1 and seem to still be getting new images submitted (so keep them coming). For more about the original challenge, see this link:

http://www.glamour1.com/forums/digit...tml#post250100

For the second challenge I'm providing a photo of model Kelley. This is a playful shot which is provided as is (no color correction or other post processing other than RAW conversion).

Post Processing challenge #2 ...

So you can all start from the same place, here is a larger version of the image with more detail:

http://www.glamour1.com/photoplog/im...y-makeover.jpg

Download it to your computer, then crop, sharpen, color balance, fix the skin, whatever and then save it as an image no larger than about 600x600 pixels and re-upload it and then insert it in a reply to this thread. See challenge #1 for how to upload your submission.

Thanks again for all those who participated in the first challenge.

Have fun.

Cheers,
rfs

ok, I'll play.

You mentioned that you did the raw conversion, do you have a link to the raw file?

Personally I think it would be easier to start with a raw file since this one seems slightly under exposed.

Mike
Since this challenge is in the Digital Forum, no Nudes are allowed. The original shot is a nude. I just chopped off the top half of the photo for the purposes of the challenge. But in one regard, this is sort of part of the challenge. We often have shots that end up either slightly under or over exposed for one reason or another. In this case, the exposure is ok (in the RAW file), but I chose to use more or less auto settings in the RAW conversion and it did set the black point a bit high (which can make the shot look a bit underexposed). To give you an idea, here is a face mask version of part of the file when I set the black point to 0.

Cheers,
rfs

My try: lips, whiten teeth, sharpen eyes, gradient background, warm image

You have to do a ultra clean knockout or you'll usually get that "halo" around the subject when going to a colored background. How did you make the selection? There are different ways to do it and a few tricks that make it less likely that you'll get the "halo effect".
Still, the color choice is interesting and I think with a little more work on the knockout will work.

Cheers,
rfs

I selected by trying the extract filter and then finally, instead, I used the blue channel as a mask. I used levels on the mask to darken it a bit and then brushed in other parts of her face to black. Then I inverted the mask to select her. I then tried to shrink the selection by a pixel to do away with the halo.

Maybe I should have selected the outer 1 or 2 pixels of her selection and deleted them?

Here's a version using my new image editing program that is in alpha testing.

I cooled the background, sharpened and increased saturation in the eyes, and smoothed and warmed the skin slightly.
