I don't know how many of you all use macs, but my friend has a macbook pro and I need to make prints for her today. All thats on it is Canon's DPP right now. Is Aperture worth a poop?

since Adobe Lightroom has been released, I think its a better management and integration with photoshop.

I have used both Aperture and Lightroom and settled on Aperture, more for it's editing (as in selection) features and for its DAM features, which means I no longer run Extensis Portfolio. I like it quite a bit, but it is resource intensive. In the studio I shoot tethered into it and am considering doing the same on location.

I have no problem with an integrated Aperture/Photoshop workflow.

I'm running a MacBook Pro at the moment, and I've tried LightRoom - not bad, especially if you don't need to do much editing. I decided on PhotoShop CS3, though, because I do a fair bit of editing. I was considering LightRoom + Photoshop, but the new Bridge CS3 that comes with PhotoShop CS3 decided me against it.

Haven't tried Aperture, but I'm already happy with PhotoShop (have been using it with Windows for a while now).

You should be happy with Photoshop! Neither Lightroom nor Aperture is a replacement for it.

I demoed both Lightroom and Aperture and chose Aperture. I thought the workflow was more natural and it quickly became a simple routine. It's definitely a resource hog and I'll likely upgrade to an 8-core soon. I didn't want to like Aperture so much. I'm a huge fan of Adobe products, but the better workflow is important to me.

I have Aperture on mac book pro with 2 gig ram, runs fine not slow. I also tested lightroom beta. Both are good products. Some of lightroom presets for sepia are cool.

Aperture is easy, neither producrt is meant to replace photoshop, they are asset management tools that allow easy raw adjustments but as noted earlier not fine work or work in layers.

If you just want to print all 3 programs will work fine.

I've got both Aperture and Lightroom. I got Aperture with my Quad-Core Mac Pro and use it primarily for my 9000 or so 'non-business' photographs from the last 3 years of digital SLR shooting.

I got lightroom when I was getting ready to do an event as Aperture didn't run on my iBook I used.

I've got 4GB of RAM on my Mac Pro and Aperture bogs down all the time. Without some decent performance tools to see what subsystem is dragging down it's hard to be certain, but I'm guessing it's storage performance. Short of getting a 4 - 8 drive RAID0 array to provide enough I/O I doubt you'll be able to improve performance much with more cores because a single drive is limited to 120 - 150 I/Os per second.

Loading/indexing/massaging 8 - 12MB files really beats that single drive to death.

Lightroom bogs down just as bad with as many files. I don't think it's a programming expertise vs. system performance. Just can't handle the I/O for large numbers of files.

My little iBook was smoking a bit by the end of the night but I did a Daddy / Daughter dance with Lightroom tethered on an Canon 5D printing to a Mitsubishi 9550DW and it worked very well.

I've used Aperature and Lightroom. The main thing you need for Aperature is a high-end video card. Apple's core video puts a lot of processing into the video card.

I've settled on Lightroom myself. For the way I work it's great.

As has been said, neither replace Photoshop. They're front-end loaders for Photoshop. :-)
