Here is an idea I had for a portable outdoor studio. The plan is to shoot bikes, but it could lean itself to other possibilities. The structure is a canopy with a white tarp cover. Red lines are the roof/tarp. The blue lines is a diffusion panel with a couple of lights hung off the tarp rafters. This particular structure is 18 x 30. The backdrop is 12 foot wide. What do you think?

Why waste the sapce in the back? Looks like, the way you set it up, you only need a canopy that is half the size. I'd move the lights and the background to the back wall and give yourself the luxury of using a longer lens. You will also pick up a lot of ambient light with the background so close to, what I believe is, the main opening.

Just a thought. Sounds like a fun project.

Check with some of the exhibition tent companies like EZ-Up. Setting two up together might be an idea. Or, they may have something tha big you can use for not a lot of money.

The structure looks like it would be bigger than what you really need but I like the idea of your project.

My idea was to have two places to shoot under the canopy. I was thinking about buying a white vinyl backdrop. I could use the backside of it for 3/4 lenght shots. I would like to have two shooting areas. But, I'm not sure if I want to have backgrounds at each end or in the middle. Since it is a white sollid background, I don't think a long lens is oing to help me much as far as bokeh and compression is concerned. It's needs to be long enough though. Something for me to think about. Thanks for the reply.

Actually, I'm looking at a web site that sells canopies which is located down in your neck of the woods, Tavares FL.

Well, If I try to do two shooting areas, then 30ft in lenght won't be two big. Width on these things jumps from 13 ft wide to 18ft. I don't think 13ft is wide enough to keep everthing under the tent.

Where are you going to put it? What is the surface you will set it on? If it is grass or dirt, your background won't last.

Then think about dirt, dust and wind. My 10x20 canopy to protect my truck just got destroyed by wind. Over time the canopy fabric will deteriorate and need to be replaced.

My recommendation is to build a carport, make a smooth floor and over time close it in as you have the funds. Make sure to check with the local building department for proper permits and clearances.

This is going to be put up and taken down on weekends. It will be on a parking lot. And if the weather is going to be bad, it won't get put up.
