Since there has been a recent long thread concerning magazine cover shots, I thought I'd post my "Norman Rockwell" magazine cover shot! The subject is Haley and this was a deliberate attempt to capture a shot similar to an illustration of NR from a similar magazine many years ago (I won't mention how many, because I don't want to date myself). Hope you enjoy it if you haven't seen it already in the past:

If other have shots of this sort, here would be your opportunity to post them.

Cheers,

The cropping needs considerable work rfs.

j/k! No it's neat, I'd be curious what the processing is. The pose etc is fairly simple, but I love the processing. Her expression is slightly odd.

I took this of my son recently, it's quite normal rockwellish, however, there was no processing done at all to produce any kind of effect... taken about a month ago in McKinney, Tx.

Really, not much processing. It was shot on a white seamless background, so that made it easy to integrate the cover elements behind the subject. The expression is straight out of the old NR illustration. The girl in that one was showing a look of surprise (as if she was saying "Oh My"). In this shot, I just asked Haley, to image that she's in the process of changing clothes and someone walks in on you. The way I usually do this is to explain the scene to the model, and then tell her to do the "reaction" when I say "Go". I then say Go, and then try to shoot at the height of the reaction.

Here is another sequence with part of the same elements:

This one was crafted to show not only a change of attire (as indicated in the title) but to also to illustrate a change in status as she went from "girl around town" to "dedicated nurse", hence the increase in the size of the subject at each step as you move right.

Cheers,
rfs

Having been around here nearly so long as you, I always enjoy seeing your "Rockwell-esque recreations." They make me smile. (And feel envious, if I'm fully honest.)
And today's no exception.
Nice work.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! I think its when you say "swell" that you've aged yourself!
