She's training in Tae Kwon Do, and has some pictures in her port in training uniform, but I wanted to try something a bit different. After all, if she gets attacked in the street she won't have time to change

Yes, there is some perspective distortion - that was deliberate - I wanted to emphasise the foot coming at the attacker. I shot with a 38mm focal length on a 5D.

Very nice. This is the kind of shot where distortion works. This would even be a good shot to do one of those pop out of the frame tricks where you put a frame around most of the photo but with part of the leg and foot extending outside the frame.
Cheers,
rfs

Cool idea - I'll see what I can manage along those lines.

BTW: if I ever see a shot of the real RFS I won't recognise it - in my head all this great advice comes from a good-looking blonde

CatCynic, Cool shot. I like it. One suggestion, though, would be to have her perform the same kick, but barefoot. Martial arts are often in barefoot and we wouldn't be look at the dirty bottom of a shoe. Or perhaps, a dainty high heel instead? Just a thought.

Again, great picture and great model.

I asked her to bring high heels, and this is what she brought - apparently she doesn't own any stilettos (my original idea was dainty high heels, just as you thought). I considered it, and decided I kinda liked the idea of the bad guy getting clobbered by a chunky shoe (I'm not thrilled with the sole, either, but at least it looks real ) - I think it might hurt more than a bare foot.

Point taken though.

Oh, and I didn't want bare feet, because the idea was for it to be like she was out walking. The image she already had was in a gi with bare feet.

Very nice, for RFS's idea Google "out of bounds tutorial".

Very nice and something different. I think it's worked fine.
As R Fredrick Smith said "This is the kind of shot where distortion works.
And I have to agree. As for the footware I think that the shot has come off
so well the footware is just something minor.

Cheers.
