I am just wandering how to go about shooting teenage models who are under 18, and are wanting to do glamour/fashion/swimsuit/langerae (sorry i dont know how to spell it). My question is how to shoot them in a way that is tactful and legal. Some photographers are telling me not to shoot any of it while others say its ok. Can you please give me some insight on this.

One rule I have always had about that. Have mommy with them. She has to sign the paperwork and ok the shots. Then you have no trouble if you don't go to far with the skin exposure.

Look dude,

No matter what Mommy says, you can still be in trouble for this. It's your ass that goes to jail over it.....why don't you shoot them in cute outfits and sundresses afterall. In the state of Alabama, it's illegal to shoot models under the age of 19 in a state of nude, Mississippi is 21. Going from lingerie can easily switch to implied nudes to nudes....maybe not, but it could....

Plus, why would you want that added pressure to find that line not to cross when you're already in a grey area....or to be known as the "underage" guy.

You can do glamour lighting with a cute top, take a 3/4 shot and no one would know that it's really not lingerie, but you know she was wearing jeans....Hell with most of the outfits these days, they look like lingerie.

When I was around 15, I wanted to take glamour shots too....but thankfully my mom protected me from it....anygirl before she's old enough to be hired for glamour work, shouldn't be building a portfolio for glamour. Not to mention, I still remember the photographers that said behind her back that it was ok, and that posing nude is fine at my age....and to come back when she's not around....these were reputable photographers, until alot more of this leaked out, and now they're not even listed in the phone book as photographers anymore.

Just focus on getting a good shot, not getting underage girls naked.

It's spelled - Lingerie

I was just at a shoot for a pretty big and very famous lingerie brand, -no i didnt shoot it, i wish i did- for their catalog... and one of the models there was 14 yrs old. Now, she did not look like what u think a 14 yr old looks like, but still she is/was 14.

So it is legal and it is ok to do, as long as u dont have them spread their legs or make sexually suggestive faces. =)

Dax,

True this is legal....but for a starting photographer with no intention to sell the image or shoot for a catalog quite yet.....

Why would he risk it? Why not focus on a good shot before getting into an area that could potentially damage his reputation as a photographer.

In truth, there are ways you can shoot it that it will look great....fine art, casual, editorial....but not glamour, not at their age. Try looking at advertisements with youngens' in it and follow their style, that way, it'll decrease the chances that the model will look too sexy in the shots...

I just keep going back to last summer, a photographer was arrested for shooting a 17 year old model in lingerie, while her parents were present. They were shooting on the model's parents' property, which was apparently a large farm-area, and the neighbors called the police....The model wasn't even nude, she was posing next to a barn, and her mother was standing right there the entire time, but still....the parents and photographer were both arrested...so why go through the hassle? I think I could find the story on it that would include more legal advice along with it....

Good luck.

Dax and Malloy Are both right.. Adriana Lima was shooting for V. Secret at 15/16 years old all legal.. But there are prolly alot of people out there who would love to make it a crime.. Before Sally Mann published those shots of her kids.. A friend of hers in the legal biz advised her if she did she was risking jail time..

Btw.. You may wanna add some images to your portfolio least some people start thinking you are just a GWC... Images give you more creds.

??? ...isn't this a 'retread' of an earlier thread? I thought we'd already gone over this one.

(checks Photoguy2003's previous posts...) Yes, we have covered this already. What's up with that?

The few times I worked with minors I made sure a parent was 3 paces to my rear left. I never shot lingerie with under 18s. The last time I worked with a model that was under 18 was about 10 years ago. The only way I'd work with under 18s now is if it was a high paying client and they picked the model from a regular agency. My 2˘

So im a photography student, iv got the camera, the flash, and lenses i need. I do not have a studio or area i can use as one. Im wanting to start a artistic nude and glamour portfolio, but i can not find anyone to model. when i approach a model about it they always say no to the nudity part of it. I guess the question is how and where can i find a model to model nude and for free (well id pay by giving a cd with the images on it), and where is a good place to hold such type of shoot? any advise on this matter would be much appreciated.

He then went on to tell us a story about a shoot that he did with a model for a swimsuit photo, and she was (please excuse the language) cameltoeing so he just reached down there to fix it. To me this sounds unethical unless its your wife or girlfriend, but what do you think about this?

Is this a correct way of saying that, and when exactly can a nude shoot go to far that it will become porn?

Should i photograph her with parent concent or waite? any advise would be very much appreceated.

Maybe it's just me, but someone seems overly fixated on nude model subjects?
