This is only the second time I've done a portrait shoot, first time doing a "glamour" shoot so please be kind!
I noticed a lot of things I know now to do differently next time...mostly paying attention to misc clutter in the background, but any other advice would be EXTREMELY appreciated!!

I really like the second one. In the the third one, her hair seems to get lost on the left side of the picture.

I'm sure otheres will have more construtive advice, but i think you did very well for your first attempt.
Looking forward to seeing more.

Congratulations on your second shoot !

I'm surely not as experienced as other photographers here in the forum, but by looking at pictures here (and reading the comments), there seem to be some "general rules" that most photographers seem to folow.

One or two that come to my mind :

- No cropping off legs / limbs / hands (#1 for sure)
- Postion of the hands (to me, in the last picture, the hands look awkward)
- avoid background clutter (#1, partly #2)
- or shallower DOF

I wish my second shoot would have been like that... Keep up the good work.

Well from what I've read about "rules of cropping" as long as you don't cut off right at the joint I thought it was "acceptable"? But now that I'm looking more closely I see how the cropping off of the legs in #1 looks off...I'll try to work on my cropping more next time
And I know you're not supposed to do open-palms unless you're integrating something along with it...the example I saw was similar to my third picture but the model was grabbing a chain-link fence.
I know the clutter was bad Next shoot I'll make sure to pay more attention to those details and thank you all for your suggestions and compliments!

Very nice expression on the model.

Think of the model as a collection of products that you want to advertise, smile hair, eyes, breasts, legs, etc. Create a picture that shows off each one to their best advantage. She has great legs, but hard to tell from the pics.

Now that you know how to do the individual parts, group them together into one picture. Building blocks. Then elicit expression.

Nice job for a newbie.

That's a good way of thinking about it, I will definately keep that in my mind next time I'm shooting.
She does have great legs, probably her best attribute...we did get quite a few pictures but I only posted 3, here's one that better shows her legs, though it's not my favorite picture of the shoot:
