Well I've been wanting to do this experiment for a long time. The inspiration came from a shot I saw in a book once and loved it so I thought I'd give it a try. Obviously it didn't come out as good as the book but oh well lol. What we did was, cut out a square in a big piece of transluscent vellum paper. Light bounced off the back to illuminate the face, and there was side lighting and such from different sources. Any thoughts on the image at all are much appreciated.

Great idea. It might be interesting to see what the effect would be with a darker skinned model.

Also, where did you get the vellum? I've not been able to find it in widths and lengths to do something like this.

Thanks for the comments guys...

I'm actually a little disappointed, it didn't turn out quite as well as I wanted. This was a "TFCD" shoot to experiment with this concept and it turned out "ok" but then again it's the first time I've tried it. The lighting was really tricky!! Big time. It was definitely a learning experience.

As for where I got the vellum, I had to get it online NO one in town carried it that large.

Thanks again

Neat idea,

As far as a few suggestions:

Maybe a different shaped hole more in keeping with the soft curves of the subject matter?

I find the dark aureole distracting, so make up or flesh colored Band-aid to diminish. The necklace is a little too busy for me, also.

Now a question for me. What does "TFCD" stand for?

I like it. How far away was the model from the vellum? What is the large dark spot? Is that her aureole or is it part of the necklace?

TJ:
Where on line did you find the vellum? I tried that approach and couldn't find it.

Thanks
