I cropped this image just under the knee, I have read in other posts not to crop below the knee. Does this look stupid?

I would crop just above where the skin on her leg shows.. or maybe better, just below the elbow (the one on her knee).. Don't leave the other elbow showing. (viewer's left)

Some photos are difficult to crop, after the fact. In other words, the best time to think about cropping is when composing the shot in the camera. That way you can arrange to pose to fit and not leave you later with difficult to crop images. But I would crop above the elbow on the right (knee on left should not show - this is not perfect, but because of the pose, one of the choices that will help balance the composition).

A good rule of thumb is not to crop AT a joint, as in, don't crop at the elbow, ankle, knee, wrist fingers, etc.

For that image, the tree above her head is unnecessary, so I would cop down closer to her head, and just up to the cuff of her pants at the bottom.

Also remember not to have the knees facing straight at the camera. You successfully posed the knees in this shot, which is off to the side.
