What happened to them? Those swimsuit photos use to be really great.

Bleah.

SI ought to come on here, look around at a few of the portfolios on here and fire all their photogs and makeup people.

You know, I recently saw a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 'reunion' book at the local Barnes & Noble and think I know what you're talking about. Though the models were fantastic, the photography (and swimsuits) just wasn't what I expected from them. It's not just who you photograph, but how.

Okay, here's my opinion...

Sports Illustrated stayed pretty much the same, and you came to expect something different from them.

Their flirtation with body painting has lasted way too long and turned into a exercise in how much can they show. But their audience is mainstram, and they have to pull back to stay on the front racks of the newstands and grocery store checkouts.

You probably expected them to push on...

Also their crew of shooters has changed somewhat. They have more fashion-oriented shooters who don't push the edge quite as much as some of the previous crew.

I actually like the Exposure book shot by Rafael Mazzucco. I think their calendars are among the best of their genre for their target audience.

Frankly, I think they are very comfortably enscounced in their niche and are going to stay pretty much as they are.
So if you're unhappy with what they offer, vote with your bucks.

But as I prefaced this, it's just my opinion.

Actually Al I went back in their arcives and there is definately a big diffrence from then to now. The lighting is better, the sets are prettyer and cleaner and the whole atmosphere said class. Now it isn't anything more than a collection of snapshots with a few good exceptions. And I never liked any of the body painting shots they did. I have seen alot better on here.
