I do Portrait and Wedding work and anything under 13 X 16 I print myself. I use luster and gloss on most of my printing. About 10% are 16X20s on canvas. I'm printing with a Epson 1280 now but I'm going to buy a new unit in the next couple weeks and would love some feedback on what everyone is using.

Epson R2400, Velvet Fine Art (which I love), Luster, and little glossy.

I use the Epson 7600, and all Epson papers, and canvas. It has been a great machine for the past 3 years, I have only had a couple of probelms with it and all were minor.

I guess I need to speak to someone at Epson. I dont understand. It would seem to me that the higher DPI 2400 printer would produce a better quality photo than the much more expencive 3800 unit. Other than a larger print, why would I want the 3800?

I use the Epson 4800. The prints come out excelent. The 3800 should be able to do the same for less money. Memories here in Knoxville uses one of the new Epson 9800s, you may want to go talk to them. They have an Epson rep that takes care of them, maybe he can help with your decision.

Hey Allen. Funny you should mention Memoeies here in Knoxville. I usally send all my large prints to them. Usally the 16X20 canvas prints. It seems to me that my 11X14s are sharper in luster and gloss. I guess the question is, why would I pick the 3800 over the 2400. It has half the DPI and Epson says the 2400 is thier B/W printer of choce. Other then the larger print size, is the quality there?

You may want to consider the Canon iPF5000. 12 inks and two heads that are user replaceable. Prints up to 17 inches wide. The results are excellent on papers from Canon (of course) and Konica Minolta Glossy, Ilford Smooth Fine Art, Innova Smooth Cotton High White, and Hanemuhle Fine Art Pearl. Granted Epson has been the king of printers but if you can do some comparisons you might be suprised.

I got the Epson 3800 two weeks ago. So far it's great. I have been printing on Epson Premium luster and Lexjet Esatin. Love the prints.

My old R800 was dying so I picked the 3800 for its print range (4x to 17x), afordability, larger cartriges, and the ability to switch from photo to matt black without breaking the bank.

This weekend I am going to start testing matt papers to pick one for my 17x prints.

If you are not going to print anything bigger than what the 2400 will print, go with the 2400. I know people using that printer, and they are very happy with it. The 2400 has also gotten excellent write ups. A larger print done on canvas is not going to be as sharp as the luster or glossy due to what it is printed on and the increase in size.

Thanks Allen. I've been leanning towards the 2400 because I can't seem to find anything better. I don't mine spending good money on an excellent product . It would only make my work easier and end up with a better product.
