Hey does anyone know off hand what the "sweet Spot" of the Nikon 80-200 2.8 lens is? It seems a little off at 2.8 which is my favorite for outdoor type work. Any input would be appreciated!!

I've never hit a golf ball with a Nikon 80-200 2.8 lens. Sorry.

probably around 5.6 or 8, If memory serves me correctly on most lenses the "sweet spot" as you called it is 1 to 1.5 stops above wide open

I've shot with that lense on several ocaissions, it seems to me the sharpest images are from f4 to f8, f11 seems to lose to much shadow detail. At f2.8 I tend to have to spend extra time sharpening in photoshop. For outdoors I shoot f4 or f5.6 preferable, in studio I prefer f5.6 or f8. If I do want to soften the image in studio I then go to f4. Just my little observation.

I have the same lense and it is tack sharp at 2.8 Your DOF is so limited it may appear not as sharp wide open. When you close it down more of the shot appears in sharper focus giving the impression of a sharper lense.
