I would suggest you throw in a couple of other decisions into your process of purchasing a new camera... ones that may either make it easier for you in the future, or could cost you extra money.
What I suggest is to think, honestly, about whether you're the type of person that will be satisfied with the purchase of your camera and whether you probably will not ever desire to upgrade the camera that you purchase.
If you were to purchase the Nikon, you'd be buying into a family of cameras that share accessories and lenses, much the same as if you were buying an entry-level Canon. Both of these manufacturers have been producing DSLRs for several years now, and either one have not only the track record and experience, but also a lot of users out there in the real world who can help with camera-specific situations. I'm not sure you can say the same about the Pentax or the Sony.
So, look not at what you want to buy this year - instead, think of what you might want to do in the next three years.
That help any?
