Several sites are just showing the big news. Adobe is releasing the public beta of CS3 tomorrow. Here is one of the links to the story:

I hear it has a new super feature where you load a photo in and it automatically does all the post processing for you using its artificial intelligence algorithms. You will no longer need to make any artistic decisions.

Maybe when CS4 comes out, it will have a direct link to your camera so that you wont even have to push the button, just point the camera in the general direction of the model.

i don't need it to push the button, i need photoshop to be able to supply a steady flow of reliable models - anyone can pratice and learn enough to push a button eventually, finding a non-flak is a rare and wonderful thing indeed - so i think maybe adobe should adress that first.

also, i just read you've got to have a serial number for cs2 to get the thing going? tough luck i guess.

A flake filter would be a wonderful thing. But that's going to be a CS5 plug in, gotta wait for that one.

I was told that CS3 will be out about spring 2007 by one of the photographers that works for Adobe who attended my photo event last week. He is listed on CS2 name credits.

That will be the official release date. But the current Beta is already released and I've been using it now for over 24 hours and it seems very solid. I have had no problems and it seems quite snappy. Its loaded with some great new features. You can download the Beta and start using as long as you have a CS2 registration code. You can have both CS2 and CS3 installed at the same time. No conflicts noted as of yet.

See my other thread on the subject for the download location.

Cheers,
rfs

I went to download and couldn't because it requires that you have CS2 installed and I only have CS. I would be interested in seeing if you think it is worth the upgrade cost.

It has a lot of neat new features. I think the changes to the RAW converter are really the most powerful. You now have a super powered curve panel with histogram and sliders that make it very strong. You can add fill light directly from the RAW converter. And about 20 other things just in the RAW converter.

In the main program things like truly non-destructive filters that work as if they were adjustment layers. There is a super powerful B/W conversion panel which gives you in depth control.

Etc.

I'm working up some examples of some features and will post sometime next week.

Meanwhile, here are the changes to just the first panel of the RAW converter:

Thanks for the info. Given that I am an antique and still shoot slides which I scan to TIFF files, please ignore my ignorance on this question. RAW is the native mode for digital cameras - correct? As such, is this new RAW capability something that I can use? The new approach to filters sounds great as does the B&W conversion however.
