It was recently brought to my attention that smartmoney.com has an article telling people to steal photos from photographers as a way to save money. I just couldn’t believe it when I read this! A place with the reputation like smartmoney.com telling people to steal from honest hard working people! To commit a federal offense no less!!

The were contacted by a slew of photographers and by PPA themselves although they moved the article they will not take it down. They say they stand by their article and are keeping it online! PPA was happy that they moved the article and were calling that a victory. Well we, the little people are NOT happy and we will fight until the article is gone!

How can we do this? We will hit them where it hurts! The bank account. Paid advertisers! On Monday Dec 4th at 10 AM ET we will be calling Fidelity and flooding their phone lines with complaints of their advertising support being on this page! We will let them know we will be back everyday until their ad is removed from that artical.

Here are the phone #’s http://personal.fidelity.com/account...ing.shtml.cvsr

We can only do this with the power of ALL of us! Let them know that there are LOTS of us and we are NOT happy! We will continue to call them every day until they have the ad removed from that page. Please everyone don’t think that someone else will call for you. Pick up the phone and make a difference. The longer we tie up their lines the louder our voice will be!

And here is a link to the article http://www.smartmoney.com/top5/index.cfm?story=20061108

Here is the quote
“Money-Saving Tips: Just buy the class picture. And don't even consider placing an order during the spring session, when many schools host a secondary picture day. If you just can't resist, purchase the smallest package possible. At the Clark School in Swampscott, Mass., parents can spend as little as $24 for a few wallet-size photos and one of the class. The bill rises to more than $50 if parents splurge for a package that includes a couple of 5-by-7s. Worried you won't have a spare to send to Grandma? Consider scanning your copy or email a cute digital shot you took yourself.”

Models, MUAs, and photographers alike all lose by others promoting illegal activity. Take a stand!

Thank you

The link doesn't appear to work for the phone number. I've never seen a .cvsr extension on a website file name.

Just another brief note: you may want to read the terms and conditions of the smart money site, since it appears you may have violated their terms and conditons as stated here:

http://www.smartmoney.com/policies/i...tory=copyright

when you quoted directly from their article.

Cheers,
rfs

Since he is not violating copyright laws by posting this (fair use) then the max they can do is ban his access based on IP.

I admit I had not seen .csvr before, but the link worked when I tried it. Here is a global search, with the top link providing (at this time) general contact information. I don't know the number for the advertising office though. Yet if we swamp all their phone lines, they might notice.

http://personal.fidelity.com/global/...ontact%20phone

More as I get it.

I've been searching for a number for Fidelity PR and can only find the customer service #'s. So, I called and thePR # for Fidelity is on the Boston switchboard at 617-563-7000.

Why not seek the dept. of Justice (DOJ) on them for openly encouraging a violation of US copyright law. What's are tax dollars for.

If Smart Money were worth reading, would they suggest you print their article from the internet and distribute it to your friends?

I don't think so!

They would be up in arms and going after the full force of the law. Why would they encourage this?

New York Office - 212.373.9300
Midwest - 312.984.5124
Los Angeles - 310.664.2941
Southeast - 212.373.9322
Texas - 512.858.9957

The latest copy of this garbage magazine (or financial pornography as I like to call it) hit my desk today, and these are taken directly out of the Publisher's section. Now these are the numbers for the advertising offices, but might I suggest that each of us contact them and let them know that we have printed the article and are sending it to our camera manufacturer of choice.

I've seen more than one ad for both Canon and Nikon, and in the end the vote with your dollar counts most. Get Canon and Nikon pissed off and you might actually stand a chance.

FWIW, there's a 3 or 4 page thread on this floating around here somewhere.
