I kind of use photography events as a calendar. Sure, it's the holiday season; Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years... but it's also the return of the calendar kiosks to the malls, and the new calendars. I've already checked out a couple of the kiosks, and frankly, there's not much exciting. But wait there's others...

One of my fav's is the Pirelli calendar. You won't find it at the mall, but there is a website. This year they've taken a different tack. Very interesting and worth a look. Pirellical.com

Another marker is the fact that the bookstores fill up their shelves for holiday shoppers. I've seen a few new books I'm sorta interested in, but nothing that I won't wait and shop around for on discount after the holidays. There's a new Sports Illustrated book called Exposure done by Mazzurco that's a collection of the swimsuit models. It's more fashion type images, but hey with swimsuits, what's to complain about. It's nicely done, and Elle MacPhearson still looks very good...

There's also a new book about nude boudoir photography that I find amazingly distasteful. Just my opinion.

Hey, just two months till the SI swimsuit issue, and there's still the Victoria's Secrets ads on MTV and Bravo...

Winter is survivable, even in the frigid upper midwest...

Happy Holidays all.

Oh I forgot, I was going to ask if anybody knew if Ultra magazine had died? I haven't seen one in some time, and just wondered.

You're right, the Boudoir book was "gross" in my opinion.
I have a book I bought many years ago on the Pirelli calendar. It has the complete history of the calendar plus a ton of photos of the calendars and behind the scenes in making the calendars. Great book.
But there are several good new books on Photoshop. Take a peek at Kelby's Photoshop Channels.
Cheers,
rfs

I don't know if it's the same budoir book, but I recently saw one at B&N I looked at the cover, opened it, looked at 2 photos and put it back on the shelf. How does crap like that get published?
