So today was a fun day, I forgot how much I loved natural light. Sarah made up for a frustrating weekend where my Friday shoot didn't show or call (It would seem lost or stolen cell phones are the new excuse) and my friends ran into trouble and so the portrait I planned to shoot for them on Saturday had to be postponed. Luckily Sarah showed up on time today and was ready to have fun and just play. Comments, critiques always welcome.

Details, details ... Yes there are detail issues with each of the photos.
#1 has a problem with a vertical line in the background that runs out of the head. Also has a problem with the white element on the left and also the one in the background that detract from the shot. I also find this shot a bit soft and the eyes not as sharp as they ought to be. Maybe this is due to minimul catchlights in the eyes, but I'm not sure.
#2 has white pillows in the background that clutter the image. Also I think it is too tightly cropped (head and fingers). Could also use a bit more light on the face to even out the lighting and lighten up the eyes a bit.
#3 is the best of the bunch, but is a bit flat and needs a bit of contrast adjustment in my view. The catchlights are a bit odd (did you use some sort of ring light?).

Cheers,
rfs

Thank you for the help, I appreciate it. I can see all of the things you are talking about. Truth is I got new furniture yesterday and because of it tried shooting in a different direction than normal and the details are all new and different. Not sure if the first on is soft or not, that part is OK with me, I think I worry too much about insane sharpness but the line will bug me now forever.

The second one I am a victim to my own worst fault, I often shoot too tight in camera. I like my shots tight and I frame in camera (aren't we supposed to) but I often find I've cut it too close so it is a valuable lesson again.

The last one is straight natural light outdoors (overcast day today) with a white reflector below. I actually am responsible for the flat lighting, that one I'll admit is intentional, but I can see how more contrast would make it a different possibly better shot.

Thanks for the excellent response.

I think that the third shot (facial shot with hood) is just fantastic. Everything about it is spot-on for me. You get pulled into her eyes, which are just beautiful.

I do agree with the comments made by R Fredrick Smith about the first two photos, but I wouldn't change much about the third shot.
