Several recent posters have complained about posting a photo for critique and while hundreds view it, no one makes a comment. Perhaps they should try out one of the new features provided for posting on G1. For example, suppose I want a critique on the following photo:

[HIDE-REPLY-THANKS]
Please make comments on this photo. Of course you were only able to see it if you clicked on the "thankyou" button, or you replied to the post. Which did you do?[/HIDE-REPLY-THANKS]

The new feature allows hidden content that is only shown if you click on the "thankyou" button or you make a reply to the post. So if you want to see the photo, you have to do one or the other, since I wrapped it and my comments with the HRT tag.

Cheers,
rfs

You realize, of course, that now there will be complaints that they have to take an extra step to see the picture. LOL!

Can you tell me, just so I can see if my eye is getting any better looking at these things, is she just very white or is the right side of her face and her breast just a tiny bit overexposed? Or maybe it's my monitor, who knows? Thanks.

Yes, they can make that complaint about the extra click, but at least the poster can't say that people looked at the photo and didn't comment, because obviously if one gets no replies or "thanks", they never saw the photo.

Well she is a little white with uneven suntan. But yes the "red channel" is clipped a bit in those areas. I often shove the histogram as far right as I can get it without clipping, and sometimes I'll push it a little more for high key. This was done in post processing in RAW, however, rather than at the time the photo was taken.

Thanks for the comments.

Cheers,
rfs

The real pisser about that hidden content feature is, I had to make my comment without being able to see the hidden content, only after I hit the submit reply button was I able to see the photo... What good is that?

Hey Guys (gender non specific)
I think this is a good time to post my very first comment. If a viewer wants to comment they will and if they dont they still do not have to, so the additional step has no added value to the poster.
If I understand the process correctly the "Thank You" button will do the same as counting the views, is that correct? The viewer is still not forced to make a comment therefore the only thing which is counted is the times the photograph has been viewed. So what the poster gets is thank you 1,000 times?
Many people such as myself lurk the site for inspiration and often dont have time to type a well thoughout informative and non abrasive critique.
So your work is appreciated eventhough I often do not comment. I want to post my work because I am eager to get views/comments/feedback from who I think are photographers who put out some impressive images.
So in closing, I am happy to be here, I think your work is awesome and you all are an inspiration to one even if i lurk more than I comment.

I guess I will kill two birds with one stone...

Critique of photo:

Face is slightly washed out, and I guess you were shooting with a 300mm f2.0? Just ask that by the comment she posted within the photo....lol.

Reply to the thread/concept:

It is a novel concept...although maybe some people do not feel inclined enough to comment, or critique, or for that matter--may not feel as though the image moves them enough to make a comment. Like a lot of people have said in a lot of different threads concerning a lot of different topics: 'If it ain't broke....'

Wasn't a big deal, I guess, to click the Thanks button. Cute photo, by the way!
