Pentax has finally released their 10+ mp DSLR, which they're calling the K10d.

It has some cool new features, such as adding an "ISO Priority" mode to the normal "Shutter Priority" and "Aperture Priorty."

As far as I can tell, the only real downside when upgrading from my *ist-D is that the K10d uses SD storage rather than Compact Flash, meaning that I won't be able to use my 4gb microdrive.

Here is a review.

You're not the only Pentax guy at G1...you're just the first one to confess to using Pentax digital gear.

I've been debating whether to wait for a decent Pentax body or to jump into Nikon, but the K10d announcement convinced me that Pentax is as loyal to customers as we are to them, so to speak. I have some prime lenses that are nearly thirty years old that will be functional on a modern body, right down to the image stabilization. That is, I would if I have the $$$ for the body. Well, Xmas is coming???

I've actually been very, very pleased with my 6pm *ist-D (well, excepting the stupid, stupid name of the thing), but I've wanted more than 6mp for a long time. I've been using Pentax gear since high school (20+ years), and I was having trouble justifying the switch. Nonetheless, all the heel-dragging from Pentax had driven me to within a few months of tossing twenty years of gear and loyalty into the trash. The K10d announcement came just in time.

I just wish I could get it before Supershoots Las Vegas weekend-after-next. I suppose that event will be the "last hurrah" for the old *ist-D. (After which, I'll never have to type that stupid, stupid name again).

Actually, $899 (with no lens) isn't too, too bad for the K10d. Like you said, Christmas is coming. I guess I'll have to withdraw my present request for a new table saw and amend it to "K10d."

I've got to tell you, I have been extremely pleased with my *ist D also. Up until I saw the K10D on the web last night I was getting really anxious about my next step. I was starting to wonder when Pentax would advance after seeing all the *ist variations. I have been shooting my *ist D PROUDLY since Pentax introduced it a few years ago and it is about time for an upgrade. Now if they could just come out with a full frame sensor...?

I'll admit it too. I own 3 Pentax film SLR's and 13 lenses. All have worked flawlessly with only an occasional cleaning. I happy to see that Pentax is loyal to their customers with backward compatibility on the lenses. The K100 D looked interesting until the K10D announcement. Well, as stated before, Christmas is coming. Have to look at the price differential once the 10D has been out for a month.
