I wanted to ask has anyone used one of these before? Even if it's not this brand. I'm looking for over all impressions of flashrings in general. Good or Bad.

Thanks

Corey

Rolando's got one that was used at the Atlanta workshop. He loves it but, as with all lights, only at the proper time. Now figuring out the proper time is always the challenge isn't it?! If it's the right type of lighting for what you want to accomplish, and you never said what that was, Hensel is a good brand of choice.

Cheers,
LSC

I have the hensel and love it. As already stated, I'm not sure I always use it in the right conditions or not. I don't use it all the time either. It's just another piece of gear that gives me options. Note to self: (go to Rolando's Atlanta workshop to find out how to best use ringflash. Yeah, that's it, that's the excuse I'll tell the wife.)

The benefit of the Hensel is that you can go mobile with it. Well, it's more luggable than truely mobile. Point is, I can shoot on location away from AC power with it.

If that's not a big selling point for you but you still like the idea of a ringflash, then wait and look into Alien Bees. Rumor (confirmed by AB) is that they're coming out with a ring flash. They just haven't been too forthecoming with details.

This is the information I received a couple of weeks ago from AB about the AB ring flash:

Quote:
The ringflash will come out in an AlienBee version and a White- Lightning version. The Bee version will be all self contained like the other Bees and will be equivalent power to the B800 units. It is impossible to go higher power because of size and weight constrictions. The WL version will use separate power supply and will
go up to 2600ws. Since the power supply is not in the WL version it will be lighter and slightly smaller than the Bee version. Both versions are highly evolved and will have modeling lamps and a bunch of features and accessories not ever seen before. Look up the $3000 Broncolor ringflash and imagine what it could be if designed more <O></O>
completely. Our rings will be light enough to hand hold on the camera and will accept lenses up to 4" diameter. In short, the rings will knock the socks off the industry.

<O</ONo peeks yet - but soon. Oh, and they won't cost much, certainly not by current industry standards.<O</O
<O</O

We don't have an exact date but hopefully around July or August…

I have the Hensel above and can't say a bad word about it. Don't forget the link you posted is for the ringflash, that particular unit needs a Porty battery source. Either $1,500 or $2,400 if I remember correctly.
