I was responding to an existing thread yesterday... clicked "submit reply" and suddenly Windows went to work opening new instances of IE as fast as it could. There were probably at least 50 browser windows open before I finally powered down (ctrl, alt, del wouldn't work - it was like a virus). That wasn't so bad, what was worse is that when I got things up and running again, all my cookies were gone. It took me an hour to get things set up again, and I probably still missed something.
What the hell is up with that?

You have been infected by a trojan virus or a Trojan ad program. There are several choices to get rid of both of these, some free, some not. Google should give you some choices and you will find good reccomendations on free programs at Cnet.com

I've had it happen and it took a combo of 3 programs to stop it.

Cheers,
LSC

It appears your computer has a virus. It has nothing to do with G1. We also run on Unix behind "hard" firewalls with the uptmost security here. There are many articles on it on the net, just do a Google search. It's no different then when a virus on people's email programs use names in their address directory and make it appear as someone sent an infected email from someone else's computer. Happens all the time.

To help ensure you don't have this problem in the future--Buy a Mac! (grin)

Wishing you the best, rg sends!

adaware se is a good freebee, but it doesn't auto run. its amazing how much crap gets on your pc even with Norton running. I also highly recomend CrapCleaner, another freebee that cleans all the unwanted internet gubbins that gets left behind.

Cleanup could take a while. Get a good antivirus program like Norton or McAfee and run a firewall (Norton has one). Also don't surf the web as "administrator", only as a limited user. Or just get a Mac.

There have been a couple of articles on the net recently about how the big three ( Norton, McAfee & ??? ) won't protect you much anymore... the virus writers own them and make sure they can sneak past.

Linux in not that shabby either on the security front and it's a lot
cheaper than Microsoft's software or Apple's hardware.
