This is something that comes up every once in a while from both photographers and models on this forum.
Refer to :

we all know the difference between porn and fine-art nude: fine-art nude is monochrome.
Meant as a joke Iím sure but it reflects an attitude that keeps serious artists and photographers forever labeled as smutters. I suppose when I was a kid I took any picture of a nekkid woman as something to titter over with my Jr. high buddies behind the barn. But then I grew up. I suppose it was about the time I photographed my first nude that I discovered it was something far more than Mule loping fodder. The intensity of was not, nor has it even been, sexual for me. Instead I viewed the young and vibrant subjects as giving me the opportunity to photograph their most intimate and basic selves. And the outcome depended on me, my meager tools and even lesser talent, to lift it beyond tawdry to something sublime. A sublime, I have come to realize, never to be enjoyed by far too many in this society since their appreciation never rose above the belt line, and these same people think it is so for everyone. Well it ainít!
Somewhere along the line I learned to sift through the plethora of images set before me and elevate the deserving above the groin area to where I could study and appreciate what it took to make it what is was: FINE art.
As fellow geezer Lester (from Georgia whose talent far exceeds mine) will, Iím sure, attest desaturation does not a fine art nude make. Stripped of the accouterments of ďcivilizationĒ and the sometime hinderments of color, a fine art nude becomes the simplest form of artistic expression. The simplest and perhaps therefore the hardest because the artist palette is limited to only the basics of light, shadow and composition. Attention to and an understanding of these three basics makes or breaks the Fine in fine art. But then isnít this true of every great image? Itís just that the fine art nude doesnít get to camouflage anything.
To me the elegance of a true fine art nude is the ultimate compliment to the greatest creation on Gods earth...
Paranoia does not preclude persecution.
