Once again assisting Greg at the studio has it benefits. Greg was shooting with Carly (0MP 149902) from Tampa who brought along her friend, Stacey (0MP 188843). I took the opportunity to make some images with her.

Nikon D200, Nikkor 28-70mm f/2.8D ED AF-S
ISO 100, f/5.6, 1/250 @ 56mm

Opinions appreciated as always.

Very nice Scott. Love the soft light and softer shadows. Well done.
(The only nit is that little diagonal thing to left of the model on the background. It keeps drawing my attention away from her face.) :-)

Thanks John,

That's an old Army camo net that we stapled up to the wall. The folds are actually the way we hung it. Since it was lit from up top, they only caught the light on the folds. When lit from the front it looks much better. I can easily burn them in a little. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I would like to ask a very simple question and it might be a little stupid but take me as beeing biggest amateur......

how did you obtain shutter speed 1/250s with such low light. I mean black background and not to much light from the front.......
I always have aproblem with this issue. Is there any to me unknown secret?
Thanks

That image was made in the studio with a single 320ws strobe (Alien Bee 800) and a 30x60 softbox. The 1/250 shutter is the fastest that my Nikon D200 body will sync with the flash. I prefer to shoot with a higher shutter speed to reduce any camera shake from hand holding, but I would have achieved the same exposure with 1/60 since we were in a dark studio with little ambient light other than the strobes modeling lamp.

I hope that helps.

Oh Puhleeze! I just hang around the studio hoping to feast on the crumbs left behind by the real shooters like you.
