I was just browsing through and found the following page:

I can't understand how people do this??? I mean, somebody takes your picture and publishes it in the internet without your knowledge. If you don't like it, YOU have to request the "photographer" to remove it (and the photographer still has the picture)

Well.... papparazzis do the something similar I guess.

It's called "being in public". You have no expectation of privacy. Anyone can take your picture in a public place. They can publish it just about anywhere. However, they can't use your likeness for commercial purposes without a release. They can be paid for an editorial or newsworthy event without your release.

To put it another way. You find yourself in public at a newsworthy event (8-alarm fire, governor's speech, parade, marathon, etc.) Photographer photographs you at said event and sells it to every newspaper around the country. He doesn't have to compensate you for anything.

Now, if Nike loved how you looked in their shoes at said event and wanted to use it in an ad campaign, the photographer would have to get a release from you before he could sell that image to Nike.

As long as it not used commercially it's fine. Actually putting up the notice that it will be removed upon request is a very nice gesture.

Okay, I have to ask.. WHY is it a big deal that someone snaps off a frame or two of you walking down the street?

Me, I couldn't give a hoot. I'd be happy that they thought I was photogenic enough to be in that situation.

This world (or is it the US of A) has to stop with all this stupid paranoia, this prudish behaviour and puritan reaction to nudes and all the other stupidity that abounds when it comes to subject of photography.
