There are alot of things to do if you are starting a real photography business not just doing it as a hobby or sideline thing. You might want to do some research on the legalities in your area. Their are tax issues to look into. Decide if you are going to form a corp. or an LLC or if you are going to get a DBA. Insurance? Studio? There are too may details to go into here. Good luck!

AMEN! My suggestion is to set aside $300 Take the first $250 and call a local attorney and tell them that you want to know exactly what it would take to start a photography business, and to have all of the necessary forms (sales tax permits, trademark applications, etc.) ready as well.

Second, find a local photographer in the same area that you plan on shooting (weddings, portraits, etc), explain that you need to understand the business better, ask them for two hour of their time and buy lunch with the extra $50.
